It comes from an original design when Paul Rivera was working with Fender from 1982 1986. This era of Fender amplifiers were known to have the "classic" Fender style cleans but had a few modifications from Rivera that included a switchable mid voiced gain channel designed to compete with Higher gain amplifiers from the time period.
